move up in limits, bad news
Posted by Mike McKim on July 19, 2005

My bankroll hit the $1000 mark this past weekend. I decided that was enough to move into the PartyPoker.com $50 buyins. Granted, it is enough to play at those levels, however, I'm not sure if my skills are there quite yet.

I've been getting pounded at these levels. I dropped from $1076 to $808 in the last seventy-two hours. My first session at the $50 tables I did profit $76, but since then I have lost nearly $275. About $175 of that have been bad beats, KKv82, QQvKK, JJv89, etc. The other $100 has been me playing horrible poker. I just do not think I was ready to play at this level. I don't think it was the skills problem, it was the money problem. What do I mean by that?

I've always had trouble putting money on the line. I'm very thrifty with my money and I never like to waste it. Ever since I got into online poker, things have changed. Online, I'm a totally different person. I think I've realized this after playing at the $50 buyins. It's just harder for me to play my game, because in the back of my head I have the feeling that I am putting **SO** much money on the line (granted that SO is relative, to me $50 buyin is a lot of money.)

I'm debating whether or not I should cash out and take a break. My bankroll currently stands at about $800, up from $200 where I started at at the beginning of the semester. Not a bad summer, considering I cashed out earlier in the summer. Overall for the summer, I'm profit about $1000 from my poker winnings. Not a bad summer job at all.

Hopefully I can get out of this slump and play some good poker. I don't think I can take another $250 hit like I have in the last three days. If it happens, you might not see me on PartyPoker.com for awhile.

Take care.
