I took a real beating last night at the $100 buyin. There was only one hand where i lost my stack. I had KK to his QQ. Caught a Q on the flop and I was dunsky. The rest of the losses came from small losses. For instance, I would raise with AQs or AKs, get called from one of the blinds. Flop comes A53 or similar, he checks, I bet pot, he calls. Turn comes a T or J, he checks, I bet 3/4 pot, I get reraised all in. I have like $50 behind me and I've put $42 into the pot by now, which means I still have roughly $60 behind me. Maybe I am too tight but I lay this hand down 7 out of 10 times (I say 7 out of 10 because if I have notes on a person that he is a maniac, calling station, etc I'll go ahead and call him).
Anyway, that's how my night went. I was down $260 at the $100 buyin tables. I was feeling pretty crappy, so what did I do? I jumped up to the $200 buyin (blinds $1/$2). Good move! Within minutes I had my stack of $200 to $500. I double up after flopping mid set to some guys QQ. Then, I flopped the nut flush and took half of some guys stack. That left me with $500 and it pretty much hovered around there the rest of the night. I was playing two $100 buyin tables and that $200 buyin table.
I ended the night down $6, instead of down $260, which was alright by me. I also managed to work through 500 of the 1000 raked hands for my $100 bonus. So, technically, I earned $50 last night, minus the $6 loss, for a profit of $44. Woot.
I might play today to try and finish up the bonus. If I don't finish, I'll probably play enough hands where I will only have to play a few hours tomorrow to finish the bonus. Wish me luck.
PartyPoker.com decided to give me a 20% deposit bonus up to $100. Naturally, I deposited my $500 for the full $100 bonus earlier today. I only need to play 1000 raked hands before I get the bonus (bonus amount * 10, or 100 times 10 for 1000 raked hands needed.) WOO HOO.
Finals are over with. I turned my last paper in today and what a great feeling it was. My junior year of college is complete. Only one more year then I am out in the "real world." Whatever that means.
I'll post how I do tonight in poker probably this weekend sometime. Until then...
So remember that project I had that was due on May 5th that I spent close to 150 hours on? Well, my group got first place in it! That's awesome in itself... but what is even better is that first place pays $4000! It was a group of four, so we each ended up pocketing $1000. $1000 / 150 = $6.67 an hour, which is crappy, but it was a school project and one for a grade, so I guess I can not look at it hourly. Still, very cool that I won and I am very proud of myself and my group.
Back to poker... I am playing very well as of late. I have now moved to three tabling the $100 buyins (blinds are $.50 and $1.00). I've been consistantly winning at these stakes. My bank roll is now at $2475. I will probably be playing at these stakes for quite a while. I probably will not move up to the $200 buyin until I have close to $7500. Why not move when I am at 25 buy ins (or roughly $5000) ? Frankly, I want to play it safe. If I am consistantly beating the $100 buyin, I do not want to move up too fast and very quickly lose all my profit.
I am almost done with finals, so I will have lots of time to play poker. If all goes well, I might even be at $5000 in the next month or so. If that's true, that would kick ass. Wish me luck.
